Settings
Administrators tune the SAP Operation Monitoring Assistant without touching code. Its configuration lives in the Agents app of the SAP operations platform, in SAP Build Work Zone, where each agent has its own page.
The settings below are the 13 that the agent type AIF resolution agent declares. The assistant's tools, grounding collections and connectors are set in the same app: see Agents app.
| Setting | Name | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Restart AIF messages | AIF_RESTART_ENABLED | false |
| Restart wait (seconds) | RESTART_WAIT_SECONDS | 240 |
| Restart wait in a synchronous call (seconds) | RESTART_SYNC_WAIT_SECONDS | 45 |
| Cancel AIF messages | AIF_CANCEL_ENABLED | false |
| Known solutions | KNOWN_SOLUTIONS_ENABLED | false |
| Report link validity (hours) | REPORT_LINK_TTL_HOURS | 24 |
| Default report period | REPORT_DEFAULT_PERIOD | last 30 days |
| Largest report file (bytes) | REPORT_MAX_BYTES | 20 MB |
| Joule view | JOULE_VIEW_MODE | markdown |
| Chart time limit (seconds) | JOULE_CHART_TIMEOUT_SECONDS | 20 |
| Briefing time zone | BRIEFING_TIMEZONE | Europe/Warsaw |
| AIF system | AIF_SYSTEM | empty |
| Allowed AIF MCP tools | MCP_AIF_TOOLS | built-in list |
How a setting is chosen
- A value stored for the assistant in the Agents app wins.
- Otherwise, the environment variable of the same name, set per environment (dev, prod) in Boidra Platform.
- Otherwise, the default.
The assistant reads its settings when it starts, so restart it after a change. A redeploy is not needed. A value that does not fit the allowed range falls back to the default, and the Agents app shows the problem next to the setting.
Restarts
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
Restart AIF messagesAIF_RESTART_ENABLED | false | Lets the assistant restart a failed AIF message after the user approves it. The SAP operations platform must allow restarts too. |
Restart wait (seconds)RESTART_WAIT_SECONDS | 240 | How long the assistant waits for the final status of a restart before it reports back to Joule (30 to 290). |
Restart wait in a synchronous call (seconds)RESTART_SYNC_WAIT_SECONDS | 45 | How long it waits when the answer has to come in the same response (5 to 55). Without a final status by then, it says the restart is still running. |
Cancels
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
Cancel AIF messagesAIF_CANCEL_ENABLED | false | Lets the assistant cancel a failed AIF message, after the user gives a reason and approves it. A cancel is final: the message gets status C. The SAP operations platform must allow cancels too. Off, the error lists have no Cancel button and every cancel request is refused. |
See Cancelling a message.
The platform has its own switches
Restarts and cancels also need the switch of the SAP operations platform's MCP server (AIF_RESTART_ENABLED and AIF_CANCEL_ENABLED, set at deploy time with the parameters aif-restart-enabled and aif-cancel-enabled, both false by default) and the Restart scope, which the assistant gets with the platform deploy. Both switches are turned on only with the AIF mock until SAP's own AIF restart and cancel APIs are verified.
Known solutions
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
Known solutionsKNOWN_SOLUTIONS_ENABLED | false | Lets the assistant reuse proven solutions of the same error, offer similar ones that may fit, and store the user's final decision (what fixed a message). It also needs the endpoint solutions among its tools. |
See Known solutions.
Reports and presentations
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
Report link validity (hours)REPORT_LINK_TTL_HOURS | 24 | How long a download link works, from 1 to 720 hours (30 days). Treat the link like the file itself. |
Default report periodREPORT_DEFAULT_PERIOD | last 30 days | The period the assistant offers when it asks which period a report covers. |
Largest report file (bytes)REPORT_MAX_BYTES | 20 MB | A larger report is answered with its summary only. |
Joule
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
Joule viewJOULE_VIEW_MODE | markdown | How Joule shows the answers: markdown, the formatted text, or ui5, Joule messages and UI5 cards: lists with actions, object and table cards, the chart and quick replies. Switching needs no Joule redeploy. |
Chart time limit (seconds)JOULE_CHART_TIMEOUT_SECONDS | 20 | How long a health or statistics answer waits for the data of its chart, in the ui5 view (5 to 45). Later, the answer goes out without the chart. |
Morning briefing
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
Briefing time zoneBRIEFING_TIMEZONE | Europe/Warsaw | The time zone of "today", as an IANA name such as Europe/Warsaw or America/New_York. A greeting such as "Hello Operation Monitoring" and "What have we got today?" count from midnight there, and the greeting (good morning, afternoon or evening) follows its local time. |
Data sources
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
AIF systemAIF_SYSTEM | empty | The SAP system (SID/client, such as S4H/100) whose AIF messages the assistant handles. Empty: its only SAP connector. |
Allowed AIF MCP toolsMCP_AIF_TOOLS | built-in list | The read-only AIF tools the assistant may call. Leave it empty unless you want to narrow them. |
Set per deployment in Boidra Platform
A few values belong to the deployment rather than to the agent, and are set as environment variables per environment in Boidra Platform:
- The language model (
LLM_MODEL), by default GPT-4.1 on SAP AI Core, and the SAP AI Core resource group it runs in. The model has to be deployed in that resource group. - Asynchronous restarts in Joule, which use Joule's push notifications and the SAP Cloud Identity Services setup of your subaccount.
See Create, register & deploy an agent for how an agent is deployed with Boidra Platform.
