What is SAP LeanIX?
SAP LeanIX is SAP's product for enterprise architecture and application portfolio management. Architects use it to answer which applications a company runs, who owns them, what they cost, what they depend on and which business capabilities they support.
The interesting change is what counts as an application. AI agents now appear in the same map: SAP LeanIX is where the SAP AI Agent Hub started in November 2025.
AI agents in the architecture map
- Agents are applications. An agent is modelled as a subtype of the Application fact sheet, so it gets an owner, a lifecycle and relations to the systems and capabilities around it - the same discipline as any other application.
- Discovery is included. AI agent discovery is part of the standard Application Portfolio Management module.
- A licensing model for many small agents. Agents are licensed as discounted applications at 1 application to 5 agents.
- Value, not just inventory.LeanIX calculates an agent's business value and suggests SAP solutions that could cover the same need.
- An MCP server of its own. The LeanIX MCP server lets AI assistants query the architecture; SAP LeanIX reports it is used by more than 200 customers.
The scale is already real: SAP LeanIX reported in May 2026 that more than 180 organisations had discovered over 180,000 agents with it.
How it connects to Joule
Since SAP Sapphire 2026, Joule Studio integrates with SAP LeanIX and SAP Signavio, so the people building Joule agents reach AI Agent Hub without switching tools. The architecture map and the agent builder finally look at the same inventory.
